Sofia Airport (SOF) Transfers Private Cars, Minibuses & Ski Transfers to Bansko, Borovets, Pamporovo & the City Centre

Arrive happy with Sofia airport transfers & rides

Sofia Airport sits about 10 km east of the centre and runs two passenger terminals in separate buildings. Terminal 1 takes most charter flights, which is what a lot of UK ski packages fly on. It is the gateway to all three Bulgarian ski regions, with Bansko, Borovets and Pamporovo in three different mountain ranges.

hoppa has 70,000+ vetted local operators across 182+ countries behind it. In Bulgaria that means the drivers who keep the Pirin and Rila roads running all winter. Fix it before you fly. The number stops moving, and the person holding your surname has run the Pirin road all season. Trusted by 40M+ travellers and by Mastercard and UnionPay as the mobility infrastructure layer for agentic travel.

Private car from £40 · Minibus from £75 · Free cancellation up to 24 hours before travel · Prices are indicative. Check hoppa.com for live prices.

Everything you need to know before you book your Sofia Airport transfer

Pick a topic to see the most common questions travellers ask about transfers from Sofia Airport — fixed prices, vehicles, delays, deals, trust, and managing your booking.

What does it cost from Sofia to Bansko, Borovets or my hotel in Sofia?

What's the price from Sofia to Bansko, Borovets or my hotel in Sofia?

Prices vary by route, vehicle, season, and time of day. Enter your dates and party size above to see your fixed quoted price for the exact journey.

What's included in my fixed Sofia price?

Your quoted price covers vehicle hire, fuel, the driver's service fee (tips), tolls, parking, taxes, and any entry, congestion or airport-access fees on the route. There's nothing extra to pay the driver on arrival.

What's NOT included in a Sofia transfer — what could cost extra?

Charged separately and disclosed before they apply: overtime fees if your trip runs longer than reserved, excess-mileage fees if you exceed your booked distance, night-time service fees on some routes (22:00–08:00), holiday or event surcharges in some regions, additional child seats beyond the first one (which is free), and extra stops you add during the ride.

Will the quoted price change between booking and travel?

No. Once your booking is confirmed, your price is locked — it's what you pay regardless of demand, season or currency changes between today and your travel date. Booking early is the surest way to secure today's rate.

Will I pay anything to the driver on arrival at Sofia?

No. Your fare is paid in full at booking and covers everything the driver's owed — tips, tolls, fuel, taxes, parking. Bookings are pre-paid via credit card, debit card, or PayPal on the hoppa platform. The only reasons your final charge could differ from the quote are changes you make on the day (extra stops, route changes) or fees for damage or smoking, which are disclosed in our terms.

Are there night-time or holiday surcharges at Sofia?

Some services include a night-time fee for travel between 22:00 and 08:00, and prices may adjust on local holidays. Both are always reflected in the quote you see before paying — there's nothing additional charged at the trip itself.

Can I tip the driver?

Tipping is entirely at your discretion. The driver's service fee is already included in your fare, so a tip is appreciated but never expected.

Do prices change for larger group sizes?

Rates are set per vehicle category, not per person. Moving up to a larger vehicle to fit a bigger party or extra baggage is reflected in the fixed quote you see at booking.

I think I was overcharged

Disputes must be raised within 14 days of the charge date by emailing customer service with your card statement and a brief explanation. After 14 days, charges are considered final.

Which vehicle fits my group at Sofia?

How many people and how much luggage fit in each vehicle from Sofia?

Vehicle categories include Sedan, Business Sedan, Minivan, Business Minivan, Minibus and Bus. Each has a strict insured maximum for passengers and luggage that drivers must adhere to. Default luggage allowance is one 24-inch suitcase per passenger — bags larger than 24″ count as two pieces. Choose a category that fits both your party and your bags.

Will I get the exact car shown in the picture?

Vehicle images are for illustration only. You're booking a category, not a specific model — and we may upgrade you to a higher category at no extra charge if your selected one isn't available.

Can I share a transfer from Sofia with other passengers?

No. Every vehicle on this route carries your party only, so there are no extra pickups and no waiting at the airport for strangers. You are driven straight to your door.

The fare is per vehicle, not per person. Four people splitting one car each pay a quarter of the price you see.

Can I add a child seat to my Sofia transfer?

Yes. We offer infant carriers, baby seats and boosters depending on your supplier and route. Add the seat type you need during booking so it can be confirmed in advance.

How much does a child seat cost?

The first child seat in your booking is included free. Any additional seats may carry a fee from the supplier — the exact amount is shown in your booking quote before you pay, so there are no surprises.

I forgot to request a child seat — can I add it after booking?

Yes. Contact customer service as soon as possible to add it to your booking. Late requests are honoured subject to availability, so the sooner you ask, the better. Important: no refund or replacement applies if a driver arrives without a seat that wasn't requested in time.

Is my child seat guaranteed once I've added it to my booking?

If you've added the seat at the time of booking, it's confirmed with your transport supplier. Seats requested after the booking is placed are subject to availability. If a seat ends up unavailable on arrival because it wasn't requested in time, no refund applies.

Can I bring a pet or service animal?

Yes, at no extra charge. Notify us at booking so the right vehicle is allocated. Important: animals count toward the vehicle's passenger capacity — so a 5-seat vehicle with two pets has three human seats.

Do you have wheelchair-accessible options at Sofia?

Yes. Note any accessibility need (wheelchair, mobility scooter, special assistance) in the booking comments. We work with specialised partners and make reasonable efforts to accommodate.

What if my flight into Sofia is delayed?

Will my driver wait at Sofia if my flight is late?

Yes. Your driver waits up to 60 minutes free after your scheduled arrival for airport pickups. For international flights, there's also a 30-minute buffer added on top — so your driver's free waiting period starts after that buffer ends.

What if my flight is delayed by more than 2 hours?

Contact customer service to reschedule. If we can't pick you up at the new time, the order is cancelled without charge.

What if my flight is cancelled entirely?

Your transfer is cancelled free of charge. Contact customer service immediately so we can update the booking.

What if my flight is diverted away from Sofia?

Contact us immediately. We'll do our best to reschedule your pickup — though we can't guarantee a free transfer if the new airport is in a different region or significantly further from your destination.

Where will I meet my driver at Sofia?

24 hours before pickup we send a final SMS or WhatsApp with the exact meeting point and your driver's contact details. Meet & greet at the arrival gate is available on request, subject to airport policy — if not possible at the gate, we'll assign an alternative meeting point.

What if I'm stuck inside Sofia Airport (luggage, immigration)?

Use the emergency number on your e-ticket to call the driver or local supplier and let them know you're still in the terminal. The driver will wait through their free period and, if reached in time, can sometimes extend.

What counts as a no-show?

Not appearing within the free waiting period and being unreachable for additional time. No-shows are charged in full and non-refundable.

Aren't I just paying a middleman fee?

Your payment covers both our booking service and the supplier's fare — we pay the supplier on your behalf. That's what gives you a fixed all-in price, dispute resolution, and a single point of contact if anything goes wrong on the trip.

Are the Sofia drivers vetted and licensed?

We only work with established local transport partners who meet our service and safety standards, and who operate under their own local licensing and insurance requirements. Each supplier is contracted directly by hoppa.

Is my booking and payment secure?

Yes. Payments are processed through industry-standard encryption and secure payment gateways. Your booking details and personal information are protected throughout the transaction.

Can I get a VAT invoice for expenses?

Yes — contact customer service within 30 days of your trip to issue an invoice.

I left something in the car

Contact customer service as soon as possible. We'll make reasonable efforts to recover and return your item, but we can't guarantee retrieval and don't accept liability for items left behind.

Smoking, damage and cleaning fees

What are hoppa Credits?

Credit issued on refunds or as a goodwill gesture. They apply automatically to your next booking when you log in with the same email, expire 12 months after issue, can't be transferred, and can't be combined with low-deposit bookings.

How do I cancel my booking? Can I get a refund?

Cancel from your account or by contacting support. How much is a taxi from Sofia Airport to Bansko, Borovets or the city centre?

Here is the number first. Bansko costs £145 in a private car for up to three. Borovets is £97, Pamporovo £209 and Plovdiv £130. Sofia city centre runs £40. Prices are indicative. Your exact fare shows at booking.

Now the part that matters more than the number. You agreed it in pounds, at home, before you flew. Nothing about it is settled at the kerb in a currency you are converting in your head.

Bansko is the busiest journey this airport has by a wide margin. At two and a half hours, it is the one where a fare gone wrong hurts most.

Will my driver be waiting if my flight into Sofia lands late?

Bulgaria is a long way from being a difficult country. It is an unfamiliar one. The money is the lev. The station names are in Cyrillic. The ski charters land into Terminal 1 in the dark at the end of a Saturday. You come through with the boot bags, the hall is quiet, and somebody is already asking where you are going.

One person in that hall is holding your surname, and that is your driver. The flight has been followed since it left the UK. A late landing moves the pick-up without anybody being told. You get up to 60 minutes of free waiting after your flight lands. On an international arrival a 30-minute buffer is added before the waiting time starts.

Land at midnight and the fare reads exactly as it would at midday, since you agreed the figure before you flew. Cannot find anybody? Stay inside and call the number on your e-ticket. It reaches a person in around 11 seconds.

Which Sofia transfer is right for you?

Two things decide it: how far south you are going, and how many of you there are. The short version:

  • Alone with a backpack, staying in Sofia: the metro, and we would rather send you to it than sell you a car.
  • Any party of three or more going into the city: a private car beats four metro tickets and a walk with cases.
  • Anywhere in the mountains: a private vehicle, since no train runs to any of these resorts.
  • Six to sixteen in a single chalet: a minibus, fare shared out.
Your travel style Recommended service Why it works
Skis, boards and boot bags
Private car, MPV or minibus Count the pairs and the boards at booking and the vehicle arrives with that space in it. The alternative is a bus to a Sofia terminal, an intercity coach south, and the kit lifted in and out at every change.
One person, a backpack, a bed in Sofia
Take the metro Line M4 runs from Terminal 2 into the centre in about half an hour for roughly £0.70. At that price we are not the sensible choice and we will not pretend to be.
Family of four with cases and a buggy
A private car or private MPV The bags are loaded once and unloaded at the door. Your first child seat is free when you ask for it at booking.
Landing at Terminal 1 after dark
Pre-booked private transfer Terminal 1 has no metro station and a quieter arrivals hall. A named driver waiting for you removes the part of the evening where you negotiate with a stranger.
Group of 6 to 16 to one chalet
Private minibus One vehicle, one address, one fare divided between everybody. Nobody counts heads at a coach station in Sofia.
Wheelchair user
Wheelchair-accessible minibus Lift-equipped and pre-booked to your landing time, seating 1 to 6 passengers. Flag it at booking so the right vehicle is the one that comes.

Is Sofia the right airport for the resort you have booked?

For Bulgarian skiing it is the only realistic answer, and that is worth saying plainly rather than dressing up. Sofia takes nearly all the international flights into the country. The resorts sit in three separate mountain ranges around it.

Fly into Sofia when:

  • You are heading for Bansko in the Pirin. It is the biggest Bulgarian ski resort and the most searched route on this airport, at £145.
  • You are heading for Borovets in the Rila. At £97 and around an hour and a quarter, it is the shortest resort run here by some way.
  • You want a city break attached to the skiing. Sofia city centre is half an hour from the terminal at £40.

Think twice when:

  • Pamporovo is your only destination. Plovdiv sits far closer to it, and the drive from Sofia is £209 over three hours or more. Plovdiv airport carries very few flights, which is the reason most Pamporovo travellers still land here.
  • You are travelling alone to a bed in central Sofia. The metro does that journey for about a pound.

We would rather set out the drive honestly than win a booking you regret three hours in.

Transport option Indicative price to Bansko Journey time What is included and what to watch for
hoppa private car (up to 3)
from £145 2 hr 30 to 3 hr Fixed all-in price, terminal to chalet door. A named driver meets you in arrivals and you cancel free up to 24 hours before travel.
hoppa private MPV (up to 5)
from £160 2 hr 30 to 3 hr Four or five people with the cases and the ski bags in one vehicle on one fare. Count the kit at booking so the boot is the right size.
hoppa private minibus (up to 8)
from £186 2 hr 30 to 3 hr A whole party to a single address, divided between everybody. Child seats and adapted vehicles are requested at the same moment.
Intercity coach via Sofia bus station
Sold by the seat, each way 4 hr and up, with the transfer across Sofia Cheapest way south if you are travelling light and alone. You first cross Sofia from the airport, then wait for a departure that was timetabled without reference to your flight.
Metro Line M4 into Sofia
About £0.70 per adult About 30 min to the centre The right answer for the city and no answer at all for a resort. It runs from Terminal 2 only, so a Terminal 1 arrival takes the free shuttle bus across first.
Airport taxi rank
Metered, settled in lev Same road, no fixed price The licensed rank is fine into the city at the posted rate per kilometre. Read the windscreen card before you get in. Overcharging at this airport is well documented, and a mountain fare is where it costs most.
Hire car
Daily rate plus the extras Same road, plus the parking Bulgarian winter tyre rules, the motorway vignette and a week of resort parking land on top of the headline rate. One of you then drives a mountain road after a dawn flight.

Watch the hidden cost: the cheap option is only cheap until something has to be agreed on the spot. A meter you cannot read. A rate card in a currency you landed with none of. A surcharge explained to you at the end of a three-hour drive. Bulgaria is excellent value. That is the point. The gap between the fare you expected and the fare you are shown stings all the more for it. hoppa gives you one figure instead, agreed in pounds weeks before you land. Every seat and every bag rides inside it, and cancellation is free up to 24 hours before travel.

How to book your Sofia airport transfer with hoppa

Takes under two minutes to complete.

Book Now

1

Search by flight or route

Enter Sofia Airport as your pick-up, then the chalet or hotel address. In Bansko give the property name as well as the street, since several streets changed name and the old ones are still on the signs. Add your flight number and hoppa tracks it automatically.

2

Choose your vehicle

Compare private car, MPV, minibus and coach side by side on fixed all-in prices. The motorway vignette, the airport pick-up charge and any night hours are counted in the figure already, and the vehicle types page shows seats and luggage for each.

3

Add extras

Give the number of skis, boards and boot bags travelling with you. Request child seats (the first is free) or the refundable upgrade. The vehicle extras page lists what you can add.

4

Confirmed instantly

Your e-ticket arrives with your driver's name, vehicle registration, photo and exact meeting point. Check which terminal your flight uses, since Sofia has two and the charter flights mostly use Terminal 1.

A few things worth knowing before you book:

Six details decide whether your booking runs smoothly, so check them before you pay.

  • The first child seat is free with every hoppa transfer. Request it at booking: the vehicle extras page shows the seats and boosters you can add, and a seat that is not on the booking can mean a refused ride with no refund.
  • No invoice follows the journey. The forecourt charge and the motorway vignette are part of the quote. So are any night hours between 22:00 and 08:00. There is nothing extra to pay the driver.
  • Each passenger gets one case up to 24 inches. A bag over 24 inches counts as two pieces, so size up on the vehicle types page if you travel heavy. Count ski and board bags in the luggage total when you book.
  • Free cancellation applies up to 24 hours before travel on cars up to 7 seats, 48 hours before on 8 to 14 seaters and 14 days before on 16 seats and above. On a 16+ seater you get half the booking value back inside 14 days, and nothing inside 7. The hoppa help centre walks you through a cancellation or a change.
  • Pets and service animals are welcome. They count toward the vehicle's passenger capacity, so flag them at booking.
  • Book inside 24 hours of travel and an expedited booking fee applies, so the day before is the cheapest moment to lock it in.
Skiers with their gear

Where Sofia actually takes you

Three mountain ranges ring this airport and each one skis differently. The Rila rises closest, with Borovets under its peaks. The Pirin runs south towards Greece and holds Bansko. The Rhodope spread east, gentler and further away.

Can I cancel or change my hoppa transfer?

Yes. For a private car or any vehicle up to 7 seats, cancel at least 24 hours before travel for a full refund. Larger vehicles carry longer windows: 8 to 14 seaters at least 48 hours before, and 16+ seaters at least 14 days before. Cancel a 16+ seater inside 14 days and you get half the booking value back. Inside 7 days you get nothing. Where your booking is eligible, you can make one free change to passenger names, contact numbers, passenger count or luggage count. A change of route, vehicle type or pick-up point means cancelling and rebooking at the current price. You can add a refundable upgrade at booking. Its price depends on the booking and the vehicle you choose. The first child seat is free when you request it at booking.

Is hoppa transfer reliable?

hoppa's managed network connects you to 70,000+ vetted local operators across 182+ countries, all verified for licensing, insurance, and service standards. With 40M+ travellers served, and institutional trust from Mastercard and UnionPay, hoppa is built on the infrastructure that the world's leading financial networks rely on for ground transportation. Fixed prices, real-time flight tracking, and 24/7 support mean your transfer is never in doubt.

The roads out of Sofia are good and the climbs at the end of them are not. Your booking handles the days the last stretch misbehaves, like this:

  • Bulgarian rules require winter tyres on these roads through the season. Every vehicle running them is equipped, and your driver checks the mountain road before setting off.
  • Saturday is changeover day for the whole country. The road south towards Bansko carries the traffic for every resort below the Pirin. Your fare was fixed before you flew, so a slow run costs what a quick one costs.
  • Mountain roads above the resorts close occasionally. Your operator sends the car round another way instead of cancelling, and names the road it will use.
  • Call the number on the booking and a human picks up, typically in 11 seconds. The line is staffed through the night the Saturday charters land.

Can an AI assistant book hoppa?

Yes. hoppa is integrated into Mastercard's Agentic Pay platform, meaning AI agents can search, compare, and complete transfer bookings on your behalf, across hoppa's full network of 70,000+ vetted providers, without human intervention. hoppa is built for the agentic travel era.

Sofia Airport terminal guide & tips

Sofia runs two passenger terminals and they are separate buildings, so check your boarding pass before you plan anything:

  • Terminal 2 takes most scheduled international flights and has the metro station beside it.
  • Terminal 1 takes most charter and regional flights, which is what a lot of UK ski packages fly on. There is no metro station here.
  • A free shuttle bus runs between the two buildings and takes about five minutes.

Ski bags ride the outsize belt rather than the main carousel. Grab yours before you head for the meeting point.

Sofia Airport (SOF)

Two terminals, which one your charter lands at, and when the metro is honestly the better answer

Arrivals

Sofia has two passenger terminals in separate buildings, linked by a free shuttle bus. Most charter and regional flights use Terminal 1; most scheduled international flights use Terminal 2. Clear passport control, collect your cases, then pick up skis and oversized bags from the outsize baggage belt. Your e-ticket names your driver and gives you a number to call.

Private transfers

Your driver waits in the arrivals hall of your terminal, past the barrier, holding a sign that shows your name or the 'hoppa' logo.

Coaches

Walk out to the coach park, signed from the terminal door. Give your terminal number at booking so the coach is at the right building.

Delays & Driver Info

1

Free waiting time

You get up to 60 minutes of free waiting after your flight lands. On an international arrival a 30-minute buffer is added before the waiting time starts, which covers the outsize belt handing back skis and boards.

Delayed, diverted or landing early?

Your driver follows your flight from the moment you board. Winter fog on the Sofia plain is the local hazard and occasionally sends an arrival to Plovdiv or Varna. Your driver sees it before the hall does and will contact you to reposition or rebook. A delayed flight simply moves your pick-up, with nothing for you to do.

?

Can't find your driver?

Stay in the arrivals hall of the terminal you landed at and call the number on your e-ticket. hoppa's team picks up in an average of 11 seconds, a 99.7% call answer rate: a real person, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The hoppa help centre answers most questions before you need to call.

General Travel Information

лв

Currency & tipping

Bulgaria runs on the lev and card is accepted in the cities and the resorts, though small mountain places still prefer cash. Prices here are shown in pounds for the UK market. Rounding up a restaurant bill is normal, and your hoppa fare is settled in advance, so nothing changes hands at the chalet.

T

Peak traffic

The road south towards Bansko fills on Saturday mornings through the ski season, and the Sofia ring road slows between 07:30 and 09:00 and again from 17:00. A midweek transfer is noticeably quicker than a changeover one.

!

Avoid unofficial taxis

Ignore anyone approaching you inside the hall with an offer, which is the single most common way travellers are overcharged here. Your driver is holding your surname and will not solicit. If you do want a metered taxi, use the official rank outside and read the rate card in the windscreen before you get in.

M

Honest alternative

Metro Line M4 runs from Terminal 2 into the centre in about 30 minutes for roughly £0.70, with no changes. For one or two people travelling light into Sofia that is the better choice and we will not pretend otherwise. Note it only serves Terminal 2, so a Terminal 1 arrival takes the free shuttle bus across first.

What to do around Sofia?

If your flight home leaves late in the day, the city repays an afternoon.

  • The Alexander Nevsky cathedral holds one of the largest Orthodox collections of icons in the world, in a crypt beneath the gold domes.
  • Roman Serdica sits exposed under the city centre, with excavated streets and buildings visible between the metro entrances.
  • Vitosha rises straight off the southern edge of the city and has its own lifts, so a spare afternoon can still be a day on the mountain.

When does the car need to leave the chalet on your last morning?

Book your return from Bansko, Borovets, Pamporovo or Sofia to Sofia Airport!

Put the return in with the outbound and a car is at the chalet for the hour you name. Leaving, your driver gives you fifteen free minutes. Be out front with everything zipped before they tick by.

Work it back from boarding. Give yourself two hours in the terminal for a European flight. The road takes around two and a half hours from Bansko. Allow an hour and a quarter from Borovets, half an hour from Sofia city centre. The Struma road south fills on Sunday mornings in season. Give yourself an extra half hour on changeover day.

Ready to book your Sofia airport transfer?

The flight to Sofia is the easy part and usually the cheap part. What shapes the trip is the two and a half hours afterwards, in the dark, with the boot bags, somewhere you cannot read the road signs.

A fixed-price car removes the one thing you cannot check from the outside. One number agreed in pounds, a driver holding your name, and the price already settled before anyone says it out loud.

Book your Sofia airport transfer alongside the flights. Keep the hoppa app on your phone for same-day changes, and see every route hoppa runs across Bulgaria.

Sofia airport transfers: Frequently asked questions

How much is a transfer from Sofia Airport to Bansko?

A private car seating three comes to £145 all-in, with eight seats from £186. The drive runs about two and a half hours, motorway at first and ordinary road after it. Bansko is the most searched route this airport has by a wide margin. Prices are indicative.

How much is a transfer from Sofia Airport to Borovets?

Borovets is £97 in a private car for up to three, or £145 for eight seats. At around an hour and a quarter it is the shortest resort transfer on this airport. The road climbs through Samokov for the last stretch. Prices are indicative.

How much is a transfer from Sofia Airport to Pamporovo?

Pamporovo is £209 in a private car for up to three. The drive runs three hours or more. It is the longest run this airport sells and the fare reflects the distance rather than the destination. A minibus holding eight is £266. Prices are indicative.

Is Plovdiv a better airport than Sofia for Pamporovo?

On the map, yes. Plovdiv sits far closer to Pamporovo than Sofia does. In practice Plovdiv airport carries very few flights, so most travellers land at Sofia and accept the longer drive, which is £209 in a private car. hoppa runs the Sofia to Plovdiv road itself at £130 if you want a night in the old town on the way.

Is the metro cheaper than a transfer into Sofia?

Two of you with hand luggage, much cheaper. Line M4 reaches the centre in about half an hour for roughly £0.70, with no changes. A private car is £40 for up to three and ends at your door, luggage and all. One thing to check: the metro station serves Terminal 2 only, so a Terminal 1 arrival rides the free shuttle bus across first.

Which terminal does my flight to Sofia use?

Check your boarding pass, since the two terminals are separate buildings. Terminal 1 handles most charter and regional flights, which covers a lot of UK ski packages. Terminal 2 handles most scheduled international flights and has the metro station beside it. A free shuttle bus links them in about five minutes, and your hoppa driver meets you in the hall of whichever one you land at.

Can I share a transfer from Sofia Airport with other passengers?

No. Each Sofia transfer carries your group alone. Nobody is picked up along the way and nothing is delayed at the terminal to fill seats. You buy the vehicle, not a ticket per person. Four people to Bansko in an MPV at £160 come to around £40 each, door to door, leaving on the landing time rather than the timetable.

Are taxis at Sofia Airport safe to use?

The licensed rank outside the terminal is fine, and the rate per kilometre is printed on a card in the windscreen. Read it before you get in. The problem at this airport is the people who approach you inside the hall, and overcharging there is well documented. A pre-booked transfer sidesteps the whole conversation, since the price was agreed in pounds before you flew.

Can I take skis, a snowboard and boot bags in a hoppa transfer?

Yes. Tell us how many pairs and boards you are bringing and the vehicle sent will have the space for them. Carrying skis adds nothing to the fare. Kit you declare travels with you. Kit you leave off the booking may have nowhere to go, and the kerb outside the terminal is a bad place to find that out.

Which Bulgarian ski resorts can hoppa reach from Sofia Airport?

The three main Bulgarian resorts: Bansko in the Pirin, Borovets in the Rila, and Pamporovo in the Rhodope. They sit in three different mountain ranges and the drives are nothing alike, from an hour and a quarter to over three hours. Borovets is the quick one and Pamporovo the long one, so pick the resort with the drive in mind.

Where do I meet my driver at Sofia Airport?

In the arrivals hall of the terminal you land at, past the barrier. Your driver is the one with a sign showing your name or the hoppa badge. Pick up any ski bags from the outsize belt before you cross to the meeting point. Minibuses and coaches wait on the forecourt, so give your terminal number at booking.

Will my driver wait if my flight into Sofia is delayed?

Yes. Your driver follows the live arrival time rather than the schedule the charter was sold on. You get up to 60 minutes of free waiting after your flight lands. On an international arrival a 30-minute buffer is added before the waiting time starts. A Sofia arrival can end up elsewhere when the plain fogs in. Your operator phones you and arranges the onward run.

Will the car have snow chains for Bansko or Borovets?

Your driver owns that job. Bulgarian rules require winter tyres on these roads through the season, every vehicle running them is equipped, and the drivers do these climbs several times a week. Mountain roads above the resorts close occasionally. Your operator takes the long way round instead of cancelling on you. The price on your booking stays exactly where it was.

How long does the transfer from Sofia Airport to Bansko really take on a Saturday?

Saturday adds thirty to sixty minutes to the usual two and a half hours. It is changeover day nationwide and the road south carries the traffic for every resort under the Pirin. The clock has no effect on your fare. A slow run costs you minutes, not money. A midweek flight avoids most of it.

Can I book the resort-to-airport leg back to Sofia as well?

Yes. Give the chalet in the pick-up box, Sofia Airport in the other. Booking settles the fare, the same as on the journey down. A driver waits from the hour you name, and the first 15 minutes are free. Leave two hours for check-in on a European flight, add the drive, and add a margin for a Sunday morning on the Struma road.

Can one vehicle take a school group or a whole chalet party?

Yes. A private minibus carries up to 22 passengers with one bag each, and a private coach seats up to 60, so two dozen on a school trip, or three families sharing one chalet, travels together on one fixed all-in price. Give your final headcount and luggage count at booking so the right size meets you. Larger vehicles carry longer cancellation windows: 48 hours for 8 to 14 seaters and 14 days for 16 seats and above. Cancel a 16+ seater inside 14 days and you get half the booking value back. Inside 7 days you get nothing.

Does the Sofia transfer price include the motorway vignette and the night-time surcharge?

Yes. Your fare is complete as quoted. It absorbs the forecourt charge, the Bulgarian motorway vignette, plus any night hours between 22:00 and 08:00. Pounds at booking, and not a lev at the chalet.

Can I add a child seat to my Sofia transfer?

Yes. The first child seat is free with every hoppa transfer. Request it at booking, with your child's age, so the driver fits it before you land. A seat that is not on the booking can mean a refused ride with no refund, so add it when you book rather than on the day.

Can I cancel or change my Sofia transfer?

Yes. For cars and vehicles up to 7 seats, cancel at least 24 hours before travel for a full refund. For 8 to 14 seat vehicles the window is 48 hours, and for 16 seats and above it is 14 days.

Do I pay the driver on arrival?

No. You pay in full at booking and your e-ticket is your receipt. hoppa accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Maestro and PayPal at checkout. The driver has nothing to collect. Bulgarians tend to round the fare up and leave it there.
