Landing at Montréal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL)
Montreal is 130 km from Mont-Tremblant and the airport nearly every international arrival uses. Allow an hour and a half to two hours for the drive, or up to two and a half in deep winter, heading north on the autoroute into the Laurentians. A private car is £223 and an 8-seat minibus £560.
Meeting your hoppa driver
Your driver waits in the arrivals hall, holding a name board with your surname. Twenty-four hours before pickup hoppa sends a final SMS or WhatsApp with the exact spot and your driver's contact details.
- Airport arrivals carry up to 60 minutes of free waiting, plus a 30 minute buffer on international flights
- Your driver tracks the inbound flight, so a delay moves the pickup rather than losing it
- If you cannot see them, stay where you are and call the number on your e-ticket. hoppa answers in an average of 11 seconds, and it is a person, not a chatbot
Tip: transatlantic flights tend to land in Montreal in the afternoon or early evening, which puts the second half of the drive in the dark. Book the transfer rather than the hire car for day one, and pick a car up in the village later in the week if you want one.
Baggage & ski gear
Skis and boards are checked in as special baggage and come off a designated oversized belt rather than the standard carousel. Tell hoppa how many ski, board and boot bags you are carrying when you book, so the vehicle sent has the space. The standard allowance is one bag per person up to 24 inches, and anything longer counts as two pieces, which a ski bag almost always does.
The 40 km that costs more than the 130
Mont-Tremblant International Airport (YTM) is 40 km from the village, about 45 minutes away, and it looks on a map like the obvious answer. The fares say otherwise. A private car from it is £493 against £223 from Montreal, and an 8-seat minibus is £1,587 against £560.
Why: it is a small regional field served by a handful of seasonal flights, so no operator keeps vehicles waiting at it. Your car is sent to meet you rather than already being there, and that is what you are paying for. Montreal has operators working it all day.
Ottawa, the third option
Ottawa is 165 km and about 2 hours away, so only around half an hour more road than Montreal. A private car is £496. It is worth pricing if your flights land better in the capital, with one warning: that route's ladder runs backwards in the middle. A five-seat MPV is £1,886 while a fourteen-seat minibus is £1,528, so read the whole table before choosing by seat count.
What to have ready before you land
- The property address as it appears on your accommodation booking, not the region. The name covers a mountain, a village, a national park and an airport
- The property name written down, so the driver and anyone meeting you are talking about the same building
- A phone number that works in Canada, so the driver can reach you rather than circling
Your first day on the hill
The village sits at the foot of the mountain, which is the thing that makes this resort work. You walk to the lift rather than driving to it, and the pedestrian village is where the week happens when the light goes.
Getting to the lifts
- Check where your accommodation actually sits: the resort spreads down the hill and across to Saint-Jovite, 11 km away, and not everything described as Mont-Tremblant is at the base
- Plan around the light: midwinter days are short here, and the cold bites earlier than the clock suggests
- Dress for continental cold: this is not an Alpine resort at the same elevation, and the difference shows on a chairlift
Tip: Saint-Sauveur is 70 km away and skis differently. If you are here for a week it is worth a day, but it is a separate journey rather than a lift link.
Timing your arrival
A morning arrival into Montreal has you at the village by early afternoon with the light still up, which on a week's holiday is most of a day saved. Transatlantic flights tend to land later, so expect the second half of the drive in the dark. Transfers run through the night on this route; a nighttime surcharge applies between 22:00 and 08:00 local time and is already inside the price you agreed.
If the weather closes in
The national park is 18 km away, Lac-Supérieur 20 km, Labelle 24 km and Val-David 50 km. Quebec City is 380 km and about 4 hours, which makes it a trip rather than a day out.
Practical essentials
Your transfer, in numbers
- Free waiting on airport arrivals: up to 60 minutes, plus a 30 minute buffer on international flights
- Free waiting on departures and point-to-point: up to 15 minutes after the scheduled pickup time
- Cancellation: 24 hours before travel on 7 seats and under, 48 hours on 8 to 14 seats, 14 days on 16 seats and above, all for a full refund
- Child seats: the first one is free. Request it at booking
- Luggage: one bag per person up to 24 inches. Over 24 inches counts as two pieces
- Nighttime surcharge: 22:00 to 08:00 local time, already included in the price you agree
- Booking inside 24 hours: possible, with an expedited booking fee
- Pets and service animals: permitted, counting toward the vehicle's passenger allowance
Paying for it
Your transfer is paid once, upfront, in the currency you booked it in, so there is nothing to settle with the driver and no cash to find at the end of a long day. hoppa takes Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Maestro and PayPal.
Language on the ground
This is Quebec, and French is the working language of the region. Road signs, village signage and most staff you meet will be French first. Your driver's details and your e-ticket come to you in the language you booked in, which removes the one moment where a misunderstanding would actually cost you something.
Winter driving on this route
The autoroute north is a main highway, maintained through the winter, since the whole region depends on it. What to plan for is the cold and the dark rather than the road surface: a late transatlantic arrival means the mountain half of the drive happens at night. Every vetted operator on this route runs winter-equipped vehicles, as Quebec law requires through the season.
If something goes wrong
hoppa's support team answers in an average of 11 seconds, 24/7, across chat, email and phone, with a 99.7% call answer rate. The hoppa help centre is the place to start if you would rather read the answer than ask for it. Any complaint must reach customer service within 30 days of the date of service.
